DIN VDE 0834-1:2026-08:
New Requirements for Nurse Call Systems in Healthcare
Since August 1, 2026, the new DIN VDE 0834-1:2026-08 has been in effect. The revised standard introduces updated requirements for the planning, installtion, modification, extension, inspection and operation of nurse call systems in hospitals, care facilities and similar enviroments.
For operators, one aspect is particularly important: responsibilities and requirements are now defined more clearly.
What changes with the new DIN VDE 0834?
The new edition goes beyond a purely technical view of nurse call systems. In addition to updated requirements for system design and operation, it includes a dedicated section addressing the minimum qualifications of responsible personnel.
This highlights an important point: the safety of a nurse call system does not depend solely on the components being used. Planning, documentation, inspection, maintenance and clearly defined responsibilities are equally important.
For operators, the key question is therefore:
Is our existing nurse call system technically, organisationally and professionally prepared for the current requirements?
The new standard should be taken into account from the outet, particularly when systems are modified, extended or modernised.
The right partner for compliant solutions
Mixvoip supports healthcare and care facilities in the planning, implementation an ongoing management of modern communication and nurse call systems.
We work with specialised manufacturer partnres whose systems take the requirements of the current DIN VDE 0834 into account:
Through the expertise available within the Emios Group, we can also address additional requirements and individual integrations.
This allows for a flexible approach: not every facility needs the same solution. What matters is understanding the requirements on site, the system already in place and how the infrastructure is expected to develop in the future.
Manufacturer-independent inspection and maintenance
A nurse call system must not only function when it is commissioned – it must remain reliable throughout its entire lifecycle.
That is why Mixvoip also offers manufacturer-independent inspections and maintenance in accordance with DIN VDE 0834.
Existing systems can be assessed independently of the original manufacturer and checked with regard to their technical condition and relevant requirements. This is particularly valuable for systems that have grown over time and have been modified or extended through multiple upgrades.
Safety starts with the right planning
The new DIN VDE 0834-1:2026-08 underlines the importance of taking a holistic approach to nurse call systems. Technology, responsibilities, inspections and maintenance must work together to ensure that a call is transmitted reliably when it matters most.
Mixvoip combines manufacturer expertise with a manufacturer-independent consulting and service approach.
From initial assessment and modernisation to integration, regular inspections and maintenance, we support healthcare and care facilities in building secure and future-ready communication solutions.
