Why is Mixmobile EU Connect more expensive than Mixmobile LU or BE? | Mixmobile LU and BE are national packages designed for primary use within Luxembourg or Belgium and require a registered address in the respective country. While EU regulations allow free roaming within the EU (“roam like at home”), this is subject to fair use rules. If a SIM is used mainly outside its home country for more than four months, surcharges may apply unless the user can prove stable ties to that country. Mixmobile EU Connect is built for regular cross-border use and avoids these limitations. While it includes minutes and SMS, its main use case is data—especially for devices like tablets, routers, or machines operating across multiple EU countries. The higher price reflects the flexibility and coverage it provides without the risk of roaming restrictions. |
How is billing frequency determined for mobile-originated calls? | Calls from and to Zone 1 are billed per second. Calls involving any other zone are billed per minute. |
How are MMS handled? | MMS is disabled by default, regardless of the package selected. This is due to its low adoption, widespread deactivation by major international carriers, and the growing use of RCS (Rich Communication Services) as a more modern alternative. |
Can I use my existing number with your mobile packages? | Absolutely! You can port your existing number to our services. We will only need an invoice of less than three month from your current operator, then we will manage the porting. |
What happens if I exceed the data of my mobile package? | If you use up all the data in your mobile plan, your data will be blocked. If you need additional data, we offer the option of an eSIM. This allows you to access extra data no matter where you are, ensuring you stay connected without hassle. |
What is the size of an SMS, and how is it calculated? | An SMS is limited to 160 characters when using standard GSM-7 encoding (the most common encoding for text messages). This includes spaces, punctuation, and special characters. If your message contains characters not supported by GSM-7 (e.g., certain emojis or non-Latin characters), it will be sent using Unicode encoding (UCS-2). In this case, the character limit is reduced to 70 characters per SMS. For longer messages, SMS uses a feature called "concatenation" to split the text into multiple parts. Each part reserves characters for linking, reducing the effective limit to 153 characters per part for GSM-7 or 67 characters per part for UCS-2. For example: • A 300-character message in GSM-7 will be split into 2 parts of 153 characters and 1 part of 94 characters. • A 300-character message in UCS-2 will require 5 parts of 67 characters each. The price for sending SMS is calculated per part, so longer messages may incur higher costs. |
